Magical Potions

Magical Potions, or as we say auf Deutsch, Zaubertrank. This one was far tougher than it looked like it was going to be, but it’s a fun kind of tough. Nathanael Mortensen’s art is gorgeous; 12 different potions in various bottles with different backgrounds. I thought this one might be a bit easy because of the compartmentalized nature — you can isolate the gold potion with accompanying coins, for example, and it’ll just come together without much confusion with pieces of the other bottles, right?

Great theory. In actuality this is one of the harder puzzles I’ve done in the past year. I rated it an 8 out of 10 in straight difficulty. The number of pieces is also interesting. When I finished the photography I realized I had 1009 images; I should have 1001 for a thousand piece puzzle. But on side of the box where the credits are listed it actually says 1008 pieces, more specific than the 1000 on the front face. Go figure. Maybe those eight extra pieces were the really tough ones…
