June ’24 Road Trip – Moonshine

Flew up to Ohio this past week so I could road trip to the San Antonio area with my friend Mary. We were constrained slightly with a timeline but planned a few stops, and among them was the hamburger stand at Moonshine, IL.

We found Moonshine via Atlas Obscura. Moonshine’s population is two, and those two people run a hamburger joint which has become a real destination for road trippers.

Unfortunately for us, 4:00 on a Friday afternoon is apparently not prime hamburger time in Moonshine.

So, let me help you out here: if you’re going to stop in Moonshine and sample the famous burgers, you need to be there by noon. That’s right. As of June 2024, they’re open from 8:00a to 12:00p, and the sign says that the grill shuts off at “12:30 sharp.” (I guess this means as long as you’ve shown up by noon they’ll make a burger for you, but only if you make your mind up and get your order placed by 12:30? I’m not exactly sure.)

Even without the famous burgers it was a nice little jaunt off the interstate, and since Moonshine is getting close to prime rock hunting territory we scouted some possible locations in case we venture back this way sometime. Not a loss at all.
